Rita Fagan, project manager at St Michael’s Family Resource Centre in Inchicore, Dublin, has been a community worker for 35 years. “What they get in social welfare is very limited, so when people talk about great social welfare, you’re talking about living within a particular level. “I can hear the voices saying people on social welfare, they’ll do much better out of it, but in the context of the cost-of-living rises, that just meets the basic needs. “Instead of giving it to people who don’t need it, it should have been targeted to people who need the most help.
